One of the Largest ATM Networks on the Planet New Edge Networks owns and operates one of the largest ATM networks in the world. With over 600 ATM switches deployed, it offers the greatest ATM switch density of any carrier on the North American continent, and perhaps the planet. The network is built on the Alcatel (formerly Newbridge) platform and is comprised of the 7470 and 7350 model devices. With its multi-service Alcatel platform, New Edge is capable of delivering frame relay, ATM, IP and DSL services. The network is built around 18 regional aggregation points (RAPs) centered in major metropolitan areas. From these RAPs, New Edge extends into several hundred markets, including tier 2, 3 and 4 cities. All RAP sites are housed in "carrier hotels," or secure co-location facilities. All remaining terminal sites are deployed as local exchange carrier (LEC) central office co-locations. New Edge Networks backbone is a nationwide system of protected optical transport that is configured for redundant service. Layer 1 protection is coupled with layer 2 dynamic rerouting, providing a rock solid base for New Edge transport. Moreover, New Edge Networks has selected a variety of tier 1 transport providers, greatly reducing its exposure to fiber cuts and other catastrophic failures through diversification. For further redundancy, New Edge is adding high capacity IP transport between its RAP sites. New Edge Networks national ATM network paired with a parallel IP backbone offers customers an extremely flexible network capable of meeting almost any requirement. New Edge maintains network-to-network interfaces (NNIs) with every RBOC in the nation and supplemental coverage NNIs to a variety of independent LECs. Additionally, New Edge has partnerships in place with a variety of other national and international carriers. Currently, New Edge has access to over 100 countries worldwide through its existing interfaces. Click here to learn about the tremendous innovations offered. . . |
